Upgradation of Grade pay of IPs to Rs 4600/-

As per the information from GS, the Department has cleared the file and submitted the file to the Ministry of Finance. The decision of Ministry of Finance is awaited. It is learnt unofficially that the Department of Posts recommended upgradation of Grade Pay of IPs from Rs 4200/- to Rs 4600/- w.e.f. 01/01/2006 to the Ministry of Finance.

  1. What about further consequences in this? Does it mean to say that both IP and ASP carry same grade pay? If such is the case the Department may go directly for Gr-B selection only and the ASP cadre may disappear in future. Pl check up with GS in this regard

    1. Sir, As per the information I got when I spoke to GS today morning, your assumption is 100% correct. IPs and ASPs are likely to be in the same grade pay from the date of effect given by Finance Ministry and no further cadre of ASP is likely to exist once Finance Ministry agrees to the DoP's proposal. All existing ASPs are likely to retain their gazetted status and all existing IPs will not have gazetted status once this proposal is agreed to by the FM.

    2. Will it not be an anomaly? ASP is a promotional post and people got it after serving 12-15 years as IPO through DPC and it is a PROMOTION not mere elevation. How the department is going to compensate the ASP cadre financially, ofcourse Gazetted is there but what about the financial benefit? Is there any move on this point at CHQ? Personally I am in favor of giving Rs.4600 GP to IP cadre.

    3. Sir, I also raised this issue before GS. He replied that let us first get GP of Rs 4600/- to IPs and then will decide after DoP issues orders, because we still do not know how an order on this will be issued by Directorate
